I'm not sure how we'll use this quilt, my 3.5yr old has declared it beautiful (he usually does say my work is beautiful) and I enjoyed watching his eyes dart between the individual stars. He loves puzzles and I could tell he was working this one out. This was also my first attempt at machine binding. There was a bit of unpicking, which I'm pleased I took the time to do. I've come to discover that you really do need to learn how to work with the width of the binding. I used Red Pepper Quilts Binding Tutorial - in my opinion it's the best tutorial out there and the best technique for machine binding. I won't bind any other way from this point forward! Free motion quilting - I've got to give it a try right?! Well.... I'm not that great at it. I know practice makes perfect, but I was not making anything perfect - at all. I discovered my walking foot and I much prefer this technique. This was a mini quilt from Westwood Acres Mini Quilt Monthly Club. It was a great way to learn and practice y-seams - I think I nailed it! And if you want to give free motion quilting a go then this is a great little quilt to use. Every month there is a notion included with the fabric and pattern. This particular month here was a fabric pen - a light fading one. I'm so slow at completing my projects, they sit in the sewing machine for days, often weeks, that I had to use a washable marking pen instead. Comments are closed.
