The embroidery, which is to be placed in the centre of the pillow front, was surprisingly quick to complete - even for me. I also changed the colours that I used for the embroidery. Sewing the embroidery onto the pieced squares was also very quick. There was no quilting required for this cushion, and I decided against the flower appliqué and ribbons used in the pattern. I always was a bit of a minimalist! Completing this project so quickly has made me wonder if smaller projects might be for me, and after my nine year First Quilt, I think I'll stick to smaller projects for a while. The satisfaction of completing a project is worth it's small scale. And of course I love having some girly pink in amongst all my boys! I'm going to try a few traditional blocks and more modern blocks to gain a few piecing skills next, watch this space... |
Having finished the top of My First Quilt, it's time for a smaller, more manageable project. I chose a cushion called "Brambles" for The Rivendale Collection by Sally Giblin. Fabric Patch stock a number of her quilted object patterns. However, I'm not a fan of the colours Sally has used, so I chose some girly pink fabrics from my ever increasing stash. No Charm Packs or Jelly Rolls for this project, I really enjoyed browsing my fabrics and coordinating my selection. When it comes to girly colour combinations, pink and "Tiffany blue" would have to be my favourites.
